(1) NORTH CAROLINA 102, (8) NOTRE DAME 87
LAHAINA, Hawaii Tyler Hansbrough scored a season-high 34 points and Ty Lawson added 22 and eight assists as top-ranked North Carolina won the Maui Invitational title with a 102-87 victory over No. 8 Notre Dame.
Deon Thompson chipped in with 19 points and 21 rebounds for the Tar Heels (6-0), who also won the tournament in 1999 and 2004.
After blowing out Chaminade and Oregon on its way to the final, North Carolina seemed much fresher than Notre Dame, which had to fight past No. 7 Texas on Tuesday.
The Tar Heels used a 25-9 run to take a 40-26 lead with 3:37 left in the first half and led by at least nine points throughout the second half.
Kyle McAlarney did his best to keep Notre Dame (4-1) in the game with a career-high 39 points, while making a Fighting Irish school-record 10 3-pointers.
(7) TEXAS 70, OREGON 57
LAHAINA, Hawaii Damion James scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as seventh-ranked Texas posted a 70-57 victory over Oregon on Wednesday in the third-place game of the Maui Invitational.
Justin Mason poured in 18 points with six assists and six rebounds while reserve Gary Johnson added 12 points and eight boards for the Longhorns (4-1), who were coming off a dramatic, 81-80, loss to Notre Dame on Tuesday.
This one was never close, despite Texas not getting much production from A.J. Abrams and Connor Atchley. Abrams finished with nine points and Atchley had zero on 0-of-5 shooting.
James shot 9-of-11 from the floor with five offensive rebounds and two blocks while the Longhorns tenacious defense never allowed Oregon to get in rhythm.
Joevan Catron finished with 13 points and Tajuan Porter and Garrett Sim each added 11 for the Ducks (3-3), who were held to 35 percent (18-of-52) from the field.
(9) PURDUE 71, BOSTON COLLEGE 64
NEW YORK ETwaun Moore scored 14 of his 19 points in the first-half and No. 8 Purdue held on for a 71-64 victory over Boston College in the semifinals of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
JaJuan Johnson scored 12 points for the Boilermakers (5-0), who had four players in double figures and are off to their best start since 2004.
Tyrese Rice scored 17 points for the Golden Eagles (3-2), who shot just 38 percent from the floor (22-of-57).
(13) OKLAHOMA 77, UAB 67
NEW YORK Blake Griffin posted his sixth double-double by recording 32 points and 16 rebounds to lead Oklahoma to a 77-67 victory in an NIT Season Tip-Off semifinal.
The 13th-ranked Sooners trailed, 34-29, at the half, but ran off a 13-5 spurt to grab a 42-39 lead. The run was punctuated by dunk by Griffin.
The teams battled back and forth until Oklahoma went on another run, this one 16-2 with less than five minutes remaining to seize control and the victory.
This marked the first time since 2003-04 that the Sooners have notched a 5-0 record.
The Sooners play Purdue in the final on Friday.
Paul Delaney III had 23 points for UAB (4-1).
