Tulsa lineman with cancer wins Courage Award

December 18th, 2008 Posted in NCAA football news

Tulsa offensive lineman Wilson Holloway, who missed the second half of this season after cancer was rediscovered in his chest, won the annual FedEx Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award on Wednesday.

Holloway was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma last spring and underwent chemotherapy before returning to play six games this season on special teams and as a reserve.

Tests in October showed that the cancer had returned, cutting his season short.

Holloway, a redshirt freshman from Oklahoma City, will be presented the award during the Football Writers Association of America’s annual awards banquet on Jan. 8 in Miami, prior to the BCS championship game.
